But I’m just so thrilled! After years of work, the one book that was both the most difficult and most rewarding for me to write is being released into the world!!!!
I know, I sound like a mad scientist unleashing a plague of 100 lb kittens upon an unsuspecting civilization, but, well, that’s kind of how I feel. Go forth my massive, adorably fuzzy, killer creation—
Well, to be honest, the Rifter is not adorably fuzzy.
It’s actually pretty dark at some points—as I think any novel about insurrection and war should be. But it’s also a little playful and rather romantic. I took an absurd amount of care in crafting the plot of this book: placing clues and key characters so that two timelines dove-tail just-so into the ending. But for all that, the very core of the epic is a story of love finding a way to exist even against the most oppressive of obstacles. (The sort of thing I always write, really.)
What makes the Rifter different is that it will be coming out in a ten book serialized form. One book a month from March to December at weightlessbooks.com. (Subscriptions are even available, and will cost less than buying all ten books individually.)
That means readers can speculate and discuss how the end will come about—who’s going to end up on what side of the revolution, what happened to the Black Tower or even why weasels keep showing up in the text. And every month there will be a new set of developments to consider! There’s even a site set up on goodreads if anyone is interested in joining in. I’m planning on spending some time there myself.
